The City of Woodland is the county seat of Yolo County. The City has approximately 300 employees serving an ethnically and economically diverse population of around 54,000 citizens in an area of 14.5 square miles. Woodland is 20 miles northwest of Sacramento and just north of the City of Davis, home of a University of California campus. The Sacramento International Airport is 8 miles to the east. Woodland and the surrounding region have traditionally been an agricultural hub of Northern California, and Yolo County is one of the largest crop producers in the state.
