What Personally Identifiable Information is Collected

How Your Information May Be Used
We use your personal information to provide you with personalized service; to send email alerts to you; to answer your requests; to solicit contributions; etc. You may choose to opt out at any time, which will cease all communications from us. We may also use your information to track visitor of our website. This lets us see which of our features are the most popular so we can better serve our users’ needs. It also lets us provide aggregate data about our traffic (not identifying you personally, but showing how many visitors used which features, for example) to outside parties. Members will have their business names [and list other info] published on our site and in [publications]. If you provide information and data to track emissions and generate public reports, the information and data contained in the report(s) will be publicly available.
To process a charitable contribution, membership subscription or other financial transactions, it is necessary for The Climate Registry to gather the visitor’s name, email address, mailing address, phone, and credit card information. This data is used to verify identity and execute the financial transaction. Additionally, phone number and email address information may be used to contact visitors if there is a problem with the transaction.
The Climate Registry may use service providers (such as merchant banks and ecommerce integrators) for the express purpose of conducting financial transactions. Personal information is kept private and secure and is not sold, rented, or traded to third parties. It is important to note that credit card numbers are used only at the time of the transaction, and are not stored following the conclusion of the transaction unless a transaction is selected that occurs on a regular basis. For transactions that recur, credit card information is stored in an encrypted format.
