The City of Cleveland has remained committed to local climate efforts through its Priority Climate Action Plan (PCAP) and Comprehensive Climate Action Plan (CCAP) update every five years. Sustainability is a key connector to address many aspects of climate impact within the City, including building resiliency within the local region for economic and health well-being. In 2009, Cleveland hosted the first Sustainable Cleveland Summit and announced an ambitious plan to transform Cleveland into “Green City on a Blue Lake” throughout all significant economic sectors in its greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory and reduction measures. These sectors include forestry, other land uses (AFOLU); commercial, industrial, and residential energy use; process and fugitive emissions; transportation; solid waste; and water and wastewater. To re-affirm our commitment to climate action, the City of Cleveland, along with 400 other “Climate Mayors” across the country formed a bipartisan network of climate leadership through meaningful actions in their communities. Representing 48 states and 74 million Americans, the Climate Mayors coalition reflects U.S. cities’ commitment to climate action and mitigation. As we strive to strengthen relations between community partners, we seek to increase capacity by leveraging opportunities to advance aligned strategies locally and globally.
