ROBERT PARKHURST
Managing Director for Carbon Reporting and Disclosure
Robert has more than 25 years of experience developing and implementing GHG inventories. He was responsible for Hewlett-Packard becoming one of the first eight companies to report worldwide GHG emissions to the World Economic Forum. To meet these requirements, he developed and implemented systems and metrics to track quarterly environmental performance for more than four million square meters of real estate in over 20 countries. In 2005, he was appointed by Governor Schwarzenegger to the board of the California Climate Action Registry. In 2007, he received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Climate Protection Award for his advocacy efforts on GHG policies at the regional, state, and national level. While at Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E), he led PG&E’s GHG reporting to TCR, Dow Jones Sustainability Index, and in PG&E’s annual 10-K SEC filing. His reporting led to top ten rankings in 2009 and 2010 on both the CDP Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index and Carbon Performance Leadership Index for companies in the S&P 500. For the past 12 years he has focused on developing and implementing GHG accounting for farmers, ranchers, and forest owners. He has investigated practices that reduce methane from the cultivation of rice and management of dairy cows; sequester carbon on grasslands through preservation and the addition of compost; and reduce nitrous oxide emissions from corn, almonds, tomatoes and wine grapes. He developed GHG inventory systems for croplands and grasslands in the states of Maryland, Minnesota, and Oregon. These states have used these inventories to develop their natural and working land GHG goals. Robert’s recent clients include government agencies, start-ups, information management companies, biotechnology companies, and environmental nonprofits. He works closely and collaboratively with these clients to expand opportunities and policies to implement sustainable agricultural practices. His work has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals, including Climate Policy, Carbon Management, and Rangeland Ecology & Management.
